Author of five books, the most recent being Breathe: 14 days to oxygenating, recharging, and fueling your body & brain, she is currently an advisor for Shape magazine and the relationship expert for Men’s Health. Previously the Health and Sex Editor at Men’s Fitness magazine and a former advice columnist for the New York Daily News, Foxnews.com, and Spin magazine, Dr. Belisa has also served as an advisor for the Fitness Institute for Gold’s Gym.

Fifteen years experience in private practice helped Dr. Belisa become a leading expert in topics from health and fitness, stress reduction, nutrition, sex and relationships, trauma and addiction. Previously, she was the Director of Public Education at the Mental Health Association of NYC, a consultant at the National Mental Health Association in Washington, DC, director of an outpatient clinic at Jacobi Hospital Center, a school psychologist in the South Bronx, and worked with parolees and their families as part of the Brooklyn Aids Task Force.As public speaker in the area of health and mental health, Dr. Belisa has a decade of experience in developing educational campaigns, presenting, and lecturing nationwide, including at Planned Parenthood, The NYC Board of Education, corporations and special interest groups throughout the US. She has also taught at New York University.
Dr. Belisa is a founder of The Breathing Class, teaching and lecturing nationwide on topics related to dysfunctional breathing patterns and stress. Unique in its straightforward approach, The Breathing Class addresses both physical and psychological problems related to better oxygenation by teaching people to breathe in an anatomically congruous way which maximizes balanced inhales and exhales. Dr. Belisa has taught workshops on breathwork, catering her lectures to a wide audience, from Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck NY, to staff and clinicians at the San Diego Marine Base. She regularly works with corporations and hospitals throughout the US. An outspoken advocate for women’s health issues and Veterans’ rights, Dr. Belisa also volunteers with several animal rescue organizations in New York City and Los Angeles.
Dr. Belisa received her doctorate degree in Psychology from New York University and completed an internship at Bellevue Hospital with specialization in neuropsychology, psychiatric consultation and liaison, and bilingual treatment.
